  • Kimberly worked with the Nature Conservancy on fisheries policy issues.
  • She has contacts at many levels (from fishers to PMs) around the central coast of CA.

The social dynamics behind total allowable catch are complicated, and not captured by current models. They come out of discussion motivated by many interests, with special interest groups meeting daily with discussants. Approaches that involve economists are new and groups are adjusting. Only scientists from NOAA and the National Marine Fisheries Service are accepted.

  • Young fishers cannot enter the market, so they fish illegally.
  • Best to start studying locally, then transition to global.
  • Marine Spatial Planning is a growing approach to marine management.
